Hello, I'm Egy

- Welcome to my homeland: the Alor archipelago -

My Story

Hi, I’m Israfil Bachtiar, but everyone calls me Egy — and I hope you will too. My story, much like Alor itself, is deeply connected to the sea. I was born on the island of Pantar and raised in the quiet coastal town of Moru, on Alor Island, not far from Kalabahi. The ocean has always been part of my life — my father was a diver, fisherman, and boat builder, and from him, I learned to respect and love the water from an early age. Today, I’m proud to continue that legacy as Alor’s first PADI Instructor.

Chasing new opportunities, I spent many years in Lombok, working in the hospitality industry. It was there, more than ten years ago, that I first discovered my passion for diving — a passion that would go on to shape my life. Since then, I’ve had the privilege of working as a PADI Divemaster, and later Instructor, in some of Indonesia’s most remarkable and challenging destinations, including Komodo, the Maratua/Derawan Archipelago, and Alor. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of safely guiding thousands of enthusiastic divers through these incredible underwater environments, helping them experience Indonesia’s marine biodiversity up close while keeping every dive fun, memorable, and safe. Along my journey, I’ve worked with some well-respected dive operators, such as Blue Marlin Dive Gili Trawangan, Scuba Junkie Komodo, Scuba Junkie Sangalaki, and Nautika Dive Alor.

In 2022, after years away from my beloved islands, I made the heartfelt decision to return home — back to my roots, my family, and the waters that raised me. Since then, I’ve spent the last 4 years diving these waters every day — intimately getting to know every corner, every current, every surprise it holds. And today, I've decided to pour my experience, passion, and love for the sea into creating something I could truly call my own: Bubu Dive Alor. I’m incredibly proud to have built a place that reflects who I am and what I believe diving should be — safe, memorable, and full of joy.

With my deep knowledge of currents and challenging environments, I’m dedicated to keeping you safe and comfortable, while ensuring your time in Alor is filled with discovery and fun.

I like to keep things light-hearted and engaging, so when you dive or snorkel with me, expect good company, plenty of laughs, and a genuine connection to the place I’m proud to call home. Welcome to Alor — and welcome to the Bubu Dive family.
